Microsoft recently conducted a study that examined “how its employees were handling the myriad of changes related to working from home (WFH).” In general Microsoft found that productivity increased as a result of WFH:
- Meeting length changed organically from 60-minutes to 30-minutes
- Manager’s collaboration time increased 8 hours per week offset somewhat by task work decreases
- Increased frequency of 1-1s with managers helped worker efficiency
- Meetings shifted from morning to late afternoon
- More night work and weekend collaboration, an average of 4 hours per week
- More mid-day breaks (take care of children, exercise, walk the dog)
- Social meetings increased 10% and 1-1 with other employees increased 18%
