{"id":62,"date":"2017-03-31T06:27:42","date_gmt":"2017-03-31T06:27:42","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/?p=62"},"modified":"2017-03-31T06:27:42","modified_gmt":"2017-03-31T06:27:42","slug":"hey-hr-is-it-time-for-you-to-let-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/2017\/03\/31\/hey-hr-is-it-time-for-you-to-let-go\/","title":{"rendered":"Hey HR, Is It Time For You To Let Go?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I talk to HR people all the time as part of my job.\u00a0 \u00a0I have a lot of respect for HR folks.\u00a0 They are quite busy taking care of important stuff for the company.\u00a0 A few that immediately come to mind include\u2026..<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Finding much needed talent.\u00a0 <em>(When asked what the biggest HR challenge was, a panel of 7 HR professionals from Silicon Valley companies agreed that it was \u201cdemand for talent\u201d.)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Helping managers go through the hiring process.<\/li>\n<li>Welcoming the new hire and orienting them to the team.\u00a0 \u00a0<em>(and devising activities and program to make them stay, e.g\u00a0 3 meals a day\u2026)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Advising management on employment issues. <em>\u00a0(with the legal department, of course)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Staying on top of employee training, licensing certifications <em>(and numerous compliance issues)<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Dealing with 3<sup>rd<\/sup> parties who help with Benefits, OSHA, Workers\u2019 Comp.<\/li>\n<li>Tracking Leave Activity according to company policy.<\/li>\n<li>Working with managers to help teams improve performance and output.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The list goes on and on, and on.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s especially difficult for HR staff in small and mid-size companies.\u00a0 In some cases, it\u2019s a department of one.\u00a0<em>How does HR \u201cdo it all\u201d?\u00a0 <\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Using the right tools<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When it comes to the \u201cright tools\u201d, many small and mid-size organizations are still using spreadsheets or reports from the payroll system, or (worst of all) using pen and paper and filing cabinets.\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/23\/4-steps-to-a-pain-free-hr-software-selection\/https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/23\/4-steps-to-a-pain-free-hr-software-selection\/\">SoftwareAdvice.com<\/a>\u2019s informal survey showed 48% still using manual methods of employee recordkeeping.<\/p>\n<p>The result?\u00a0 Lots of time wasted \u2013 double data entry in multiple spreadsheets, correcting bad data, pulling information from various sources to create a government-required report.<\/p>\n<p>Hey HR, how much is your time worth? \u00a0How much time will you save by using a central HRIS for all your employee records?\u00a0\u00a0 10-20 hours a week?\u00a0 300 hours a year?<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.payscale.com\/research\/US\/Job=Human_Resources_(HR)_Manager\/Salary\">Payscale.com<\/a>, the median hourly salary of an HR Manager in the US is $18 per hour (as of Sept 20, 2015 with 2053 individuals reporting.).<\/p>\n<p>Assuming an HR Manager wastes 300 hours a year chasing data, pushing paper, etc. that\u2019s $5400 a year that the organization could use elsewhere!<\/p>\n<p>Another area where HR does not have to \u201cdo it all\u201d is utilizing Employee Self-Service and Manager Self-Service technologies.\u00a0 Let employees access documents they need, such as policies and procedures, employee manual, safety manual, employee directory and such via online portals.\u00a0 Let them update their addresses and emergency contacts as needed.\u00a0 And let them make their Benefits selection changes online \u2013 during open enrollment.<\/p>\n<p>With an Online Leave Request and Approval Process, employees and managers can process the transaction without taking up HR\u2019s time and attention.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, managers can use online tools to share team goals, monitor performance, provide feedback and ongoing development of individual team members.\u00a0\u00a0 HR doesn\u2019t really have to \u201cdo it all\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Support from Management<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the question isn\u2019t \u201cHey HR is it time for you to let go?\u201d\u00a0 Perhaps the question is really for management to answer:\u00a0\u00a0 \u201cHey, CEO\/COO\/CFO \u2013 does your HR department have the right tools to help your company achieve its goals?\u00a0 Or would you rather continue to waste at least $5400 a year and hope your HR staff doesn\u2019t give up and leave your organization?\u00a0 Oh, and by the way, employees and managers are unhappy because they are not getting what they need either.<\/p>\n<p>The time not only to say THANK YOU to the HR staff, but\u00a0provide them with the right tools and support that they deserve.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I talk to HR people all the time as part of my [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[5],"tags":[6],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/62"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=62"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/62\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":63,"href":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/62\/revisions\/63"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=62"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=62"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=62"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
