{"id":40,"date":"2017-02-18T20:50:46","date_gmt":"2017-02-18T20:50:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/?p=40"},"modified":"2017-02-18T20:50:46","modified_gmt":"2017-02-18T20:50:46","slug":"how-to-save-money-on-workers-compensation-part-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/18\/how-to-save-money-on-workers-compensation-part-2\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Save Money on Workers Compensation, part 2"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">See <a href=\"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/2017\/02\/18\/how-to-save-money-on-workers-compensation-part-1\/\">part 1<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The cost of doing business continues to rise, so reducing costs associated with Workers\u2019 Compensation is a great help to many organizations. \u00a0This is part 2 of a two-part series on \u201cUnderstanding and Controlling Workers Comp Costs\u201d, a presentation by Liza Moran , VP Pinnacle Brokers Insurance Solutions.\u00a0 I have added additional comments on how HRSource and HRnetSource users can use the system to support these cost-saving strategies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Determine if a FIRST AID PROGRAM fits your<\/strong> organization (ideal for minor cuts, bruises and burns). Train employees and supervisors on how to address minor incidents appropriately.\u00a0 Have a relationship with your medical providers so they are aware of your First Aid Program.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"2\">\n<li><strong>Encourage IMMEDIATE reporting<\/strong>. A 2009 Zenith Countrywide report shows that costs increased with a lag in reporting of injuries.\u00a0 Furthermore, late reporting increased the chances of litigation.\u00a0 In other words, the longer it takes to report an injury, the more likely it may lead to litigation and the increased costs associated with that.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Get to know your key provider\/s within your medical network<\/strong> and establish a positive profile about your company. Meet regularly with the medical provider and let them know about your:<\/li>\n<li>First Aid Policy<\/li>\n<li>Return-to-work Philosophy and Program<\/li>\n<li>Job Descriptions with Functionality<\/li>\n<li>Other best practices, such as morning warm-ups, regular stretches, posters fostering a healthy lifestyle, etc.)<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Draw on their expertise.\u00a0 Have them suggest preventive ideas, such as stretch breaks, ideas to eliminate repetitive motion\/duties, etc.<\/p>\n<ol start=\"4\">\n<li><strong>Have proactive communications throughout the organization.<\/strong> Take advantage of many opportunities to communicate.\u00a0 For example, train all supervisors on the process of <u>how to<\/u> and <u>to whom<\/u> to report claims.\u00a0 Post the \u201cNotice to Employees \u2013 Injuries Caused by Work\u201d.\u00a0 When someone is hired, include information in his or her New Hire Packet, including the process of how to and to whom to report claims.\u00a0 Finally, at the time of the injury make sure you report the injury to the carrier with a complete packet.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<ol start=\"5\">\n<li><strong>Ask your broker and carrier about FREE SERVICES that they provide.<\/strong> Examples might be:\u00a0 IIPP (Injury and Illness Prevention Program) Resources, Training Classes, Safety Videos, Tailgate Topics, Ergonomics Analysis (is that chair too low and causing shoulder pain?), Trips and Falls Prevention.\u00a0 Work with your broker and carrier to find FREE RESOURCES for proactive communication such as a Safety Newsletter or an Internal Safety Alert\u00a0 that fosters a culture of accident\/injury PREVENTION.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Make sure your documentation and tracking is accurate, detailed and complete.<\/strong> Track your POLICY LOSS RUNS and CLAIM STATUS REPORTS.\u00a0\u00a0 Analyze the data and discuss with your broker\/carrier.\u00a0 Draw on their experience to help you find ways to reduce costs.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em><u>How HRSource can help<\/u><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Use <a href=\"http:\/\/www.auxillium.com\/hrsourcePS.html\">HRSource <\/a>to track work-related injuries and illnesses.\u00a0 The data can be analyzed to help identify <u>injury and illness patterns<\/u>.
