{"id":194,"date":"2020-10-28T04:06:00","date_gmt":"2020-10-28T04:06:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/?p=194"},"modified":"2020-10-28T04:08:40","modified_gmt":"2020-10-28T04:08:40","slug":"the-majority-of-young-adults-live-with-their-parents","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/2020\/10\/28\/the-majority-of-young-adults-live-with-their-parents\/","title":{"rendered":"The Majority of Young Adults Live with Their Parents"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In July of 2020 the percent of young adults, aged 18-29 years old, living with their parents reached an all-time high of 52%.\u00a0 Although the trend of young adults living at home has been increasing in the past few decades, with COVID-19, it has jumped an extra five percentage points.<\/p>\n<p>As the chart below from Pew Research (1) indicates, at the turn of the 20th century, the percentage of young adults living at home was in the low 40% range as multi-generational homes were common.\u00a0 That percentage rose during the great depression as families had to further consolidate for economic reasons.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-large wp-image-195\" src=\"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Livingwithparents_02-778x1024.png\" alt=\"Livingwithparents_02\" width=\"778\" height=\"1024\" srcset=\"https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Livingwithparents_02-778x1024.png 778w, https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Livingwithparents_02-228x300.png 228w, https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Livingwithparents_02-768x1011.png 768w, https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Livingwithparents_02-830x1093.png 830w, https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Livingwithparents_02-230x303.png 230w, https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Livingwithparents_02-350x461.png 350w, https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Livingwithparents_02-480x632.png 480w, https:\/\/hrnetsourcedemo.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/10\/Livingwithparents_02.png 840w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 778px) 100vw, 778px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The post-World War II economic and building boom led to more young adults living on their own.\u00a0 That level remained near 30% for several decades and then started to increase, in part because more young adults were living at home during college years.\u00a0 In 2050 only 7% of had a college degree.\u00a0 That increased to 21% in 1990 and to 36% in 2019.
